Formed in the year 2000 in Larissa, Greece, Black Winter has long been a cult presence in the global underground black metal scene. Founded by original members Gasgorth, ∅Theist, and Demonith, who has also been the band’s sole constant member across all releases, the band quickly carved out a reputation for delivering infernal black metal with a distinct personal vision.

By 2002, with some line-up changes, Black Winter began to solidify a sound that would see them rise within the ranks of the European black metal underground. Over the following decade, they performed extensively, sharing stages with the likes of Marduk, Septicflesh, Nightfall, Order of the Ebon Hand, and many more. Black Winter also played and headlined a considerable number of black metal festivals.

Their discography includes two demos, a live tape, a split demo tape, a split CD EP, and a 7” vinyl split, with their music having featured in compilations including Astarte’s The Cross released in memory of Tristessa, cumulatively distributing thousands of units containing their music worldwide and solidifying their standing in the underground scene.Following a long period of inactivity,

Black Winter has now been reborn. In 2025, the three aforementioned members from the original era have come together, along with long-serving members Noch and Talos, to forge a new chapter.

Black Winter’s return to the dark fold, ready to once again unleash their signature brand of black metal upon the world.
